Your questions answered.

Frequently asked questions.

  • How can investing through CommShare be more beneficial than investing direct with companies myself?
  • Investment companies almost always charge the same, even if you go to them direct. They simply keep the commission they would otherwise pay to a financial adviser. We use this commission to give you a better deal.
  • Will you give me investment advice?
  • No, but we will give you information about your funds. CommShare’s service is for people confident about making their own investment decisions.
  • What companies do CommShare work with?
  • We work with all the main fund companies and life assurance companies such as Fidelity, Jupiter, Invesco Perpetual, New Star, Prudential, Legal & General, Norwich Union and Standard Life.
  • If I appoint CommShare as my Agent, will my investments be affected in any way?
  • No. Your investments are not affected at all if you appoint CommShare as your Agent. They stay exactly where they are and you continue to receive information from the fund companies as usual.
  • Do I pay tax on my cashback payments?
  • No – under current HMRC regulations cashback payments are tax free, except where they relate to pension plans. HMRC has yet to rule on the position with regard to pension plans.
  • What if I change my mind and want to move away from CommShare?
  • You are never under any obligation and can leave our service at any time without penalty.
  • What happens when you receive my Agency Appointment forms?
  • We contact the fund companies to confirm that future renewal commission will be paid to us. We also ask them to provide information about your investments so we can add them to your ƒUNDSFOLIO. When we have heard from all the fund companies we send you a confirmation letter. If a fund company won’t pay future renewal commission to us we will let you know about alternatives that you could consider.
  • Can I use Fund Supermarkets?
  • Yes, we recommend it. Contact us to arrange to consolidate your funds into a fund supermarket. If you already use one, use Agency Appointment forms for Cofunds, Fidelity or Skandia to include your existing fund supermarket funds in ƒUNDSFOLIO.
